Presented here are photos from the Canon OES 30D and Nikon COOLPIX 8800.

Both the Canon OES 30D and Nikon COOLPIX 8800 are 8 Megapixel cameras of roughly the same vintage. The Canon  EOS 30D takes all pictures with a 3:2 ratio, full size pictures are 3504 X 2336. The Nikons (both 8800 and 5700) take both 3:2 and 4:3 ratio pictures. In 3:2 ratio, pictures from the 8800 are 3264 X 2176, the rest of the pixels are used to make the taller 4:3 photos. The Nikon 8800 makes generally larger files than the Canon. The Nikon COOLPIX 5700 is a 5 Megapixel camera and the Nikon COOLPIX 2100 is a 2 Megapixel camera. The 2100 is the only one small enough to fit in a pocket. The COOLPIX cameras also take short movies with sound and are smaller and lighter than the SLR's. There is a longer delay between photos while the COOLPIX write the memory card, and there is more noise in the photos.

Cameras were mounted on a tripod, mirror of Canon was locked up. Nikon does not have a mirror. Remote shutter release was used with Canon. Delayed shutter release was used with Nikon.

Photos were shot through a relatively clean window, from the same tripod.
